Effluent Treatment

Innovative industrial effluent treatment solutions to minimise environmental impact.

Companies and governments have an ever-increasing responsibility to demonstrate they are reducing harmful industrial emissions. That includes wastewater emissions and waste generation.

We have more than 20 years of experience delivering effluent treatment solutions for water-intensive industries, such as:

  • Manufacturing;
  • Electronics;
  • Pharmaceuticals;
  • and Municipal Applications.

Our services cover consultancy, design and supply, installation, commissioning and training.

Packaged Treatment Plants

Plug-and-play effluent treatment systems that can be transported anywhere in the world.

When you're short of space and time, our packaged treatment plants offer an effective way to treat wastewater onsite. We use our in-house design and build capabilities to fit a fully operational treatment plant into a series of containers. The final solution can be easily transported to your site, with installation often only taking one day.

Our fully commissioned plug-and-play systems come with pre-wired power supplies, control systems, and interconnections. This offers easy integration into existing water streams.

Routine operational tasks, planned maintenance and routine maintenance, are all considered in the design process, with ease of access to equipment a key factor. We also offer remote systems monitoring to give your operational and maintenance staff peace of mind.

Examples of Effluent Treatment Technologies

Electrocoagulation

A closed-loop process that is highly effective in removing contaminants from wastewater.

Compared to traditional treatment methods, electrocoagulation systems:

  • reduce the number of required settling ponds
  • eliminate odour problems,
  • and reduce sludge production.

All of these factors minimise disposal costs.

Electrocoagulation units can treat up to an additional 15 million gallons of wastewater per day to reuse for other purposes. Depending on the application, they can achieve removal rates in excess of 99%.

Electrocoagulation technology can increase productivity and capacity at existing facilities. It can also shorten the treatment process by reintroducing cleaner, treated wastewater later in the process. Or by bypassing the entire plant as a standalone treatment system.

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)

A widely-used treatment process for industrial wastewater effluents from petrochemical and chemical plants, natural gas processing plants and similar industrial facilities.

DAF systems remove a range of contaminants from wastewater, achieving clarification rates of 97% or higher. These include:

  • Fats, oils and grease (FOG)
  • Suspended solids (TSS)
  • Biological oxygen demand (BOD)
  • Food, animal production, and processing wastes
  • Industrial wastes
  • Hydrocarbon oils and emulsions

DAF systems have a high-efficiency level, increasing wastewater reuse rates.

Submerged Aerated Filters (SAF)

A stable treatment process that is an attractive, cost-effective and low-maintenance solution for treating municipal and industrial wastewater.

SAF wastewater treatment systems are designed to meet the specific requirements of a particular project. They have a tolerance to fluctuations in incoming wastewater and a small footprint.

One of the greatest advantages of a SAF treatment system is its ability to be scaled to meet most treatment needs, whilst achieving typical final effluent quality after treatment of 30mg/l TSS, 20mg/l BOD and 10mg/l Nitrogen as Ammonia, or better.

The biological treatment process is efficient and well-proven, offering low whole-life costs. Additional benefits include a low environmental impact and minimal manpower and energy requirements. As well as having no moving parts within the tanks where the treatment occurs.

Anaerobic Digestion

A proven and energy-efficient way to treat industrial wastewater.

Reduce operational costs and create a circular economy using anaerobic digestion. The process breaks down microorganisms into biodegradable material. It is commonly used to treat biodegradable waste and sewage sludge.

As part of an integrated waste management system, anaerobic digestion reduces the amount of waste disposed to landfills, lowering overall operational costs. The process is also a renewable energy source. The biogas produced as a byproduct is a direct fuel, and the nutrient-rich digestate acts as a fertiliser.

Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

A collection of questions our clients ask us most frequently

What is commonly found in industrial wastewater?

Industrial wastewater often contains high levels of contamination, including toxins, microorganisms, pathogens, and chemicals. Every industry produces a different set of contaminants. For example, car manufacturers will generate wastewater contaminated by heavy metals and chemical solvents.

Why treat industrial wastewater?

There are three core reasons for treating industrial wastewater:

  • Protect human health
  • Environmental protection
  • Recover useful products, such as fertilisers and energy

How is industrial wastewater treated?

There are several different ways to treat industrial wastewater, including chemical treatments, biological treatments, and the physical removal of contaminants. We can help you to design and install the most effective wastewater treatment solution for your business.
